When I agreed to take on the role as the State Conference Director, little did I know that I would have the opportunity to be in the presence of such great company! As we prepare for yet another stellar conference in August, part of my role is get to know each of our speakers. I want to know not only what they will share with our attendees, but how their message will translate to our workplace and profession.
When Lisa Ling takes the stage at Tuesday’s general session, I am confident you will find that she embodies a passion to bring change, a strong work ethic and a sincere love of volunteering – really making a difference in the lives of others.
HR Florida is excited to have Lisa Ling as our Tuesday key note speaker for the 2011 Conference & Expo from August 29th – 31st. Lisa is the co-executive producer and host of Our America on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) and the field correspondent for The Oprah Show. Lisa is going to open our hearts and minds as she discusses her role as a journalist to focus on positive social change.
In addition to hosting her new show, Lisa is also a contributor to ABC News’ Nightline and was the first female host of National Geographic’s Explorer series where she investigated the deadly MS-13 gang. She also went undercover inside North Korea and explored the drug war in South Africa.
Ling started her career in journalism as a correspondent for Channel One News where she covered the civil war in Afghanistan at 21 years of age. She later went on to become a co-host of ABC Daytime’s hit show The View, which won its first Emmy during her time at the show. Lisa was also a special correspondent for CNN’s Planet in Peril series and is a contributing editor for USA Today’s USA Weekend Magazine.
Lisa is the co-author of Mother, Daughter, Sister, Bride: Rituals of Womanhood and Somewhere Inside: One Sister’s Captivity in North Korea and The Other’s Fight to Bring Her Home which she co-authored with her sister, Laura.
She is passionate about volunteering locally and has been involved with www.ivolunteer.org since it began and volunteers with St. John’s Shelter and Covenant House.
I know you won’t want to miss the opportunity to hear Lisa address our audience and our hope is that you will be able to bring that passion back to your community, family and workplace.
